December

I cant believe this month is already over and that 2008 is coming to an end! December has been a good month in our house. We love having a little baby in our home and all the joy that comes with that!
Little McKenzie is a people person and has enjoyed meeting everyone. She is staying awake much more during the day, which is something we enjoy. We like when the eyes are open because they are so beautiful! They currently are a blue color, and I hope they stay that way. Adam has brown eyes and I have blue, so we will see what happens. I guess they can still change, but until then, I will enjoy her blue eyes.
She has grown quite a bit, and no longer fits in her preemie clothes. I have mixed feelings about that, because it means she is growing. The majority of me wants her to stay small forever, but then it will be fun to actually play with her. I wish I had a better scale at home so I knew how much she weighs.
Our dog (did I ever mention we rescued a dalmatian back in September??) is very protective of McKenzie. A few weeks ago while McKenzie was very fussy, Dolly (she came with that name, we didn't choose it) brought the Binky for McKenzie. It was a pretty cool event. Dolly remains to check on the baby when she cries and gives me a bad look when she thinks I am not being a good mom to McKenzie.
We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and that you enjoy the coming New Year!

Thanksgiving 2008

The whole family had an extra blessing to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Here is our little cutie in her Thanksgiving outfit from Aunt Darci. This little one has her Aunt wrapped around her finger!
Here are a few more recent pictures of her since we brought her home. I bet our blog will be updated more, now that we have pictures to share :D
Since she was quite a bit smaller than we expected, we didnt have many clothes or diapers in preemie size. After getting home, Adam took a quick trip to the store and got her this outfit. He is proud of his selection. Thankfully Grandma Joan has also got her a few more outfits in the right size. This little one only came 4 days earlier than her due date. Boy she is a little one!

Update...

Sorry for not updating for such a long time, things have been busy in the Seattle Morton house. We were busy getting the house put together before the baby came. Actually, Adam was busy putting the house together. I planned things well, be 8 months pregnant when moving, it allows you to have the easy job. I will have to keep it in mind for the future. hehe! The house looks great, and everything was put away just in the nick of time.

I was also put on rest due to high blood pressure. I should have used that time to update the blog, but I was a slacker. So sorry! I was bummed to be put on rest, because I felt just fine and felt like a waste just sitting around. Thankfully it wasn't full bed rest, but more of rest. I still had to start my maternity leave early due to this, but it got me mentally ready for the little one to come.

Next update...

WE HAVE A BABY IN OUR HOUSE!!

And we couldn't be more happy or in love with her!

After an appointment on Friday November 21st, my doctor said I needed to be induced. I headed to the hospital and started the induction, but it wasn't progressing. I was having small contractions, but not dilating. They were able to control my blood pressure, and after much thought and prayer, we decided to discontinue the induction. The thought of having a long and painful labor didn't seem right, especially since there wasn't a medical reason to continue (no more high blood pressure). I know we really confused the doctor and nurses because we continued to change our minds, but I know we made the right decision.

Well, on Monday November 24th at a doctor's appointment it was decided that we again needed to try the induction due to high blood pressure. So we were told to go to the hospital the next morning. That was a hard evening, because we knew the little one was finally coming!

We got to the hospital on Tuesday morning and started with the cytotech medicine to start the contractions. After three doses, I thought I was having contractions, but later I learned what REAL contractions were. Boy I was mistaken! At 4:45m they broke my water (which was a weird experience). Almost immediately I started to have much bigger contractions.

When I finally decided that the contractions were too much and wanted the epidural, it was too late. I went from being dilated at a 3 to a 10 in a matter of no time. I was in the labor tub (which was so relaxing) when my hips started to ache. My mom suggested that I get out of the tub and lay on the bed and get the epidural. I really didn't want to get out of the tub since it was so relaxing, but I am glad I did. When the nurse checked how dilated I was, she said I was at a 10 and the baby was coming!

She tried to get the doctor, but she was not in the hospital (she was called to an emergency at the other local hospital). And the the other available doctor was in a c-section. GREAT! Just our luck! The nurse kept telling me to rest and relax, but I could feel the baby needing to get out, I needed to push! So I screamed that I needed to push and get her out, so we started. A few contractions later, the doctor that was in the c-section came in.

I only had to push for 10-15 minutes, and it I don't remember it being more painful than the contractions prior to pushing. Those were awful! I remember screaming "PULL HER OUT" because it felt like I couldn't get her out. I guess I screamed something else that I shouldn't post. :D But I also know that I didn't scream or get mad at Adam for this.

She was born at 10:04pm and weighed a whopping 5lbs 12.8oz. Before they weighed her, we all guessed how much she weighed. I guessed 6lbs 2oz, and Adam guessed 5lbs 13oz. The hospital actually rounds up, so all records show her as 5lbs 13oz, which is exactly what Daddy guessed. I guess the accountant in him did a perfect guess.

All in all, I think I was pretty lucky that we didn't face any complications through the whole pregnancy or delivery. We feel so lucky to have this little bundle of joy in our family. She is precious.

Here are some pictures of her at the hospital.....

Finally!

We finally got to jingle a new set of keys to our new house! It is wonderful to have extra space and to finally be able to get little McKenzie's room put together. I will post some pictures of the new place in a bit.

Moving Blues

We are patiently waiting to be able to jingle a new set of house keys, but it feels like it will be forever until we are able to. We signed over a week ago, but because we are buying a foreclosure, the seller's bank has encountered a problem with a payoff. We have done all of our parts within a reasonable time, but they are dragging their feet. I would think they would speed things up.

Normally I wouldnt mind too much, but we need to move! My due date is in 7 weeks, and her room isnt even put together. Of course, we have gathered most of the baby things that we will need, but we are running out of space to hold on to them. I am afraid that her room wont be decorated that way I want.

To make matters worse... Adam leaves town for a week over the weekend. I just know that we will get the keys while he is gone. That leaves me to get it done... and I am nearly 8 months pregnant. Those two things dont go together well. I may have to gather the troops. He will be home for a week, then leaves town again. What timing we have.

Wish us luck in getting the keys quickly. And why do they call it a SHORT SALE??? Nothing about this was short.

Blog Slacker

I admit, I have been a blog slacker the past month or so. We have been busy with the process of buying a new home, which has been stressful, but will be wonderful when it is complete. Thankfully Adam takes care of most of that. I am lucky!

Adam has been traveling a bit with work, which he has enjoyed. The last trip to Denver was more like a vacation, and not much like work. What a life. He has also been enjoying the outdoors, and climbed Mt. Baker with his brother, brother in law, and some friends. I am still thankful that they were able to rescue him from the crevice that he fell into. I almost hope he didnt tell me about this expeience. Thankfully he didnt fall the whole 40 feet to the bottom.

I have also been stocking up on baby clothes for little McKenzie. She has a cute collection already, but Adam thinks we should slow down on the clothes buying. I think he is crazy, and little does he know.. she is going to get more. :)

I cant believe I am already 26 weeks along. This past week, she must have had a huge growth spurt because my stomach really grew. We swear that she is going to be a karate kid, becuase she kicks like crazy.

Well, that is the update on us. I will post more as it happens, and maybe even some pictures.

I blame it on the pregnancy hormones, but I am one emotional girl lately! The craziest things have been bringing the tears lately, but the one that tops the list happened this past week.

I have dreamed of a new Honda Pilot for some time, and we saw on a commerical that they have changed the body style. Why did they do that, I loved how they were! I realized that I no longer can get my dream car brand new. I have the option to get it used, or to get the UGLY new style. Normally this would bum me, but with these silly hormones... it triggered the tears. Adam thought it was so crazy that I was crying over this.

Looking back, it is so funny that I cried over the changed body style... but I wont admit that I am going crazy.

We found out this week that were having a GIRL! We are in Heaven and cant wait for her. The ultra-sound technician said she was very active and moved around like crazy, I think she is going to like playing hide-and-go-seek.

Happy Birthday Sweetie!

Although this entry is late, I wanted to take a minute to say Happy Birthday to my sweetie! His birthday was on the 21st, and he turned 24 too! We are the same age again! Let me tell you, during those 12 days that I am a year older than him, I make sure to let him know that he is the baby of our relationship.

Anyways, I wanted to write 24 reasons why I love Adam..

#1.. He is my everything! Even before we were together, I remember him being a sweetheart. He isnt loud or obnoxious, but quite and sincere.

#2.. He goes out of his way to make me smile. He often stops by my work when I havent taken lunch to see that I get atleast something to eat. He keeps the house stocked (and I mean STOCKED) with my favorite treats.

#3..He is a planner! He has everything in order for every occasion.

#4..He loves the Lord! He does his best to do what is right! And he took me to the temple to be married and sealted for Eternity!

#5..Everything he has is from hardwork! He wasnt given anything, but worked for all of it!

#6..He is humble! Anyone who would drive around the junkers that he and his siblings drove would have to be humble!

#7..He makes sure I am asleep before he falls asleep. If I cant fall asleep, he will bring in the laptop with movies that I dont like.

#8..He loves my family! Often he suggests visiting my parents, even without my hinting.

#9..He loves his neices and nephews, and often has picked out their birthday presents months before their birthdays (see, he is a planner)

#10..If he could, he would buy his mom everthing she ever wanted, since she doesnt always get the fun stuff.

#11..He can be handy, atleast he tries! He has done quite a few home improvements on our condo, and doesnt like to ask for help. Thankfully Ben or my dad can come help if needed.

#12..He is more of a traveler than I am, which makes it easy to talk him into a trip!

#13..He has us ready incase of an emergency. Our cars have 72 hour packs, the closets are full, the attic is stocked with wheat, and we have plenty of water!

#14..He does the dishes, which is one of my least favorite chores!

#15..He already has purchased toys for our little ones, and he cant wait for our family to come! Infact, I think he is more excited than I am... and I am excited!

#16..He hauled through college to get done. Four years of school in two and a half is pretty dang quick!

#17..He is my shoe polisher! He makes sure the shoes are polished often, which is something that I overlook.

#18..He likes to shop too!

#19..He has an obsession with REI, and makes sure we have good outdoor gear!

#20..He listens to me complain, and at the end, nicely tells me if my thoughts are justified.

#21..When he found out that I like Bath and Body Works hand soap for the bathroom, he went out and baught me EVERY scent they had so I had my favorite ones!

#22..When he finds out about one of my dreams or goals, he is right beside me to accomplish it! He knew I have always wanted to see Celine Dion in concert, and when he heard that she was retiring, he drove me to Las Vegas to see her. Later we found our that she wasnt retiring, but rather going on tour again. She is coming to Seattle to preform in October, and I have tickets for that show too!

#23..He is organized! I keep the house clean, and he keeps it organized. Last week I came home to find the pantry completly empty and him in the middle of reorganizing it!

#24..He folds the socks, because he knows that I hate doing that part of the laundry! I keep them in a cute basket for him, and when it gets full, he matches the socks!

Happy Birthday babe, and I cant wait to get old with you!

Adam got a job! He will be graduating from Central on June 8th and will be a Collateral Auditor for Wells Fargo starting on June 12th! This is a great job for being fresh out of college, and will be GREAT pay! He is on cloud nine, and couldnt be much happier! His main goal was to be able to stay with Wells Fargo, but this is better than he imagined.

Basically, he will audit the businesses that have loans with the bank to see that they have enough collateral to back the loan if they defult. He will have some travel, as far up to Alaska and down to California, but his audits will mainly be here in the Tacoma/Seattle area.

Today is just a good day in the Seattle Morton's family!

Happy Birthday To Me!

This past Friday, May 9th, was my 24th Birthday and it was everything I could have dreamed of! Adam surprised me by bringing my gift to work which was too sweet of him! He got me a nice digital picture frame and uploaded tons of pictures of our trips on it. He thought I would like to keep it here at work, but I would rather put it to use at home. I would hate for something to happen to it. My parents spoiled me, like normal. I loved the gifts, but I enjoyed the time spent together even more. Also, Ben and Melissa were generous and gave me a gift card to Motherhood Maternity, now that is something that only a pregnant lady would enjoy.. and I cant wait!
On Saturday we all went to the horse races, which is something that I have wanted to do for years, and it was sooo much fun. Those horses are amazing, and the Jockies are TINY. Growing up, I remember when my dad worked at Long Acres and playing in the stables. He actually worked for a horse owner who said that he was going to make me a jocky. Too bad that never happened.
Thanks everyone for making my day (which ended up being a weekend) wonderful!

Home Away From Home!

We should just move into the changing room at REI with the amount of time we spend there. Really, do we need to take weekly trips to visit atleast one of the area stores? I think we go there more than we go grocery shopping!
Now that Adam and Ben are prepping to become mountianers, the list is rapidly growing on what they 'need.' I guess I shouldnt complain, becuase this is better than being in front of the computer playing games, right?
Now really, how many guys do know that have over 14 backpacks for each need, (and that was the last count)? And we have two stoves for each member of the family (including the little bean in my belly).

morning sickness sucks.

the end.

Monday, April 21, 2008

I was certain that it was from eating all of the wonderful pasteries in Europe that was making the pants a bit tight, but boy was I wrong! We found out that we are pregnant and expecting our first bundle of joy in late November! Adam is on top of the world, and I dont understand why they call it morning sickness, becuase it lasts all day!

I have had my first appointment, and cant wait for this little one to come join us! I am sure it is a little lady but Adam is hopeful that it is a little gentleman! He is against the odds, because the Chinese Gender Projector says it is a girl, and everyone else says its a girl too! Also, they say you get more sick with girls, and although I havent been pregnant before to compare, this morning sickness is getting the best of me!

We're Back!

Our trip was a dream come true!

We left early Thursday morning and arrived in Germany early Friday morning. Thankfully we got to the airport early because Delta's customer service was awful (and I mean awful)! When we landed we werent quite used to the time change and wasted the first few afternoons by napping! Oh well!

It was so fun to see where Adam served his mission of two years. He took me to all of the cities that he lived in and showed me the hi-lights. It was surreal to see the apartments that he lived in, and to meet some of the people he taught. I grew to love the train system, and really wonder why we dont have something like that.

We visited Cathedrals, hiked to Castles, and ate bratwursts like crazy! The Heidelberg castle was my favorite! It was huge! We went out late at night to get a picture of it lit up. Isnt this just amazing?I loved all of the stained glass windows in the cathedrals. It think how long these buildings have been standing took me by surprise.
From Germany, we went and spent some time in Paris which was so fun! We visited Notre Dame (okay, I cant figure how how to rotate this picture, so just turn your head)

and we visited the Eifle Tower! They wouldnt let us go up it because we had a backpack, which seemed like a crazy reason. Maybe it really was because we are American. There were French Military Men carrying automatic guns to protect the Tower, which was a little freaky. Also, there were Bosnian refugee women begging for money, which got a little old after the tenth one asked for money, and said the amount I was giving wasnt enough.

After visiting the Tower we went to the Louve, which was HUGE! Since neither of us really are into Art History, we just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Let me tell you, the Mona Lisa was a total bust! All that for such a little painting. Of course it is world famous, but we were so disappointed. Look how small it was! I could carry it!

From Paris we went to Switzerland, which we fell in love with! We stayed with one of the missionaries that Adam met while serving in Germany. Matio did a great job with showing us around his friendly and beautiful country. Him and his Mom prepared wonderful meals for us, and treated us like royalty.

We went up into the Swiss Alps and dreamed of moving there, except there is NO way we could aford it. Paying 8 franks for a cup of hot cocoa made me choak! A little cornished game hen was 15 franks, and I am used to spending $3!

After Switzerland, we traveled to Rome, Italy by a night train. We werent very impressed with Rome at first, but that was mainly because we were so dang tired. After spending a few hours out in the town we headed back to our VERY NICE hotel to get some rest. This was fine because it was the Monday after Easter, and most everything was closed.

We couldnt find any half decent food (have you ever had ravolli in a mustard sauce... nasty!) and I was certain that I was going to live off McDonalds. How sad is that? Thankfully the next day we found some pretty good Italian food!

We woke up the next morning and headed to the Vatican, and waited for what seemed FOREVER! Upon entering the museum we headed right to the Sistine Chapel. Because there were SO many people there, and we didnt relate to much of the artwork, we didnt stay there too long.

The Colsseum was amazing and for some unknown reason, the enterance was free! How cool was that!

All in all, Rome wasn't our favorite place to visit in Europe. It was pretty dirty, and there were drunk homeless people everywhere! The worst part was while sitting at the train station to leave for Venice. There were literally drunk homeless people everywhere! It was pretty scarey! I wont tell you what the guy was doing next to me, lets just say he was enjoying himself! NASTY! Finally we went and waited by the train, which was better.

The train trip to Venice wasnt very fun either. The train was 40 minutes late and we didnt have a seat to sit in, so we had to sit outside the bathroom, which was stinky! From hearing all of the stories about pick pocketing in Italy, we didnt leave anything out of sight. The trip there was awful! But we fell in love with Venice. Very small, very much like out of the movies, and very romantic!

All thought it rained quite a bit while we were there, we loved Venice. Here's a hint if visiting Venice, get a GOOD map because it is easy to get lost. Even my Eagle Scout of a husband got lost! (love ya babe, and thanks for being so good with getting us around)

Adam made another one of my dreams come true by taking me on a Gondola ride, which was one of the best memories ever. Much better than in Las Vegas!

During our last few hours in Venice, Adam realized that he couldnt find his passport. Talk about stress! The police department knew nothing, it wasnt at the Hotel, and it wasnt anywhere to be found. So we snuck him over the borders of Austria and Germany until we got to the US Embassey in Frankfurt, Germany. Only by the grace of God were we able to get him through these countries. It was straigt from the movies, with him hiding in the bathrooms with the Police pounding on the door. Thankfully he spoke Germany well enough to make it not look like stupid Americans. Were we lucky! We got to the Embassey with 20 minutes until they closed, and they let us cut to the front of the line (perk of being an American Citizen) where they gave him an emergancy passport to be able to get home.

The trip was a dream come true, and we came back with no regrets!

Europe

~Italy~

~Switzerland~

~ Paris~

~Germany~

We just cant wait! The plane tickets are purchased, the train tickets are purchased, and the suit cases are down from the attic! In less than two months we will be making a dream come true! We're going to Europe for two and a half weeks!
Adam has been talking to his friends that he met in Germany while he served his mission there, and I am so thankful that I have an i-pod, because I cant understand a word that they are saying! While we are visiting Germany, I will be listening to the i-pod quite a bit!

“Believe in Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Redeemer, the Son of God, who came to earth and walked the dusty roads of Palestine-the Son of God-to teach us the way of truth and light and salvation, and who, in one great and glorious act offered an atonement for each of us. He opened the way of salvation and exaltation for each of us, under which we may go forward in the Church and kingdom of God. Be not faithless, but believe in the great and wonderful and marvelous blessings of the Atonement.” ~President Hinckley

How great the joy must be that our beloved Prophet has now that he is again with his sweetheart. May we all remember what he has taught us.

Drum Roll Please...

After a few attempts, here is our blog.. which we will begin using as a family journal... even if there are only two of us! I love being a blog stalker, but finally decided that I too want a blog.

A bit about us..

Adam continues to be overly busy with work and school. We are proud to say that he is almost done with his degree (s), and will be able to sit for the CPA exam when he is done at Central in June. He continues to work at Wells Fargo, which has been so flexible with his school schedule.

I just work! I cant wait for Adam to be done with school, so I can continue with my education. I am hoping to be able to work only part time when he is done, so I can focus on school.

We are looking forward to our Europe trip which in March! Adam is going to take me on a tour of Germany, where he served his mission of two years. We will also be going to Paris, Switzerland, and Italy. We cant wait! We just need the next month and a half to go faster!

I will add more in the next few days! Enjoy yourself!
